Robert Floyd was born and raised in Fall River and schooled in Boston, Long Island, and NYC. He spent a few “lifetimes in Manhattan.”

Robert has been capturing images of the social, entertainment, corporate and sports worlds for over 35 years. Through the seasons, he has been commissioned to capture many famous faces, from George Bush to Jimmy Carter, from Yogi Berra to Maya Angelou, from Warren Buffet to Michael Dell, from Michael Jackson to the Alvin Alley Ballet, from homeless shelters to buildings by I. M. Pei, from Ivana Trump to John McEnroe, from Ron Brown to Judy Collins, and hundreds and hundreds more. Robert successfully completed over 2,250 assignments alone in the ten years of the 1990s.

He is the photographer who makes writers look like authors.
(Speaking of authors and books…see below)

In addition, Robert’s scenic and wildlife images have been installed, from private collections to boardrooms and universities.

Robert Floyd as a Manhattan-based photojournalist built a career telling stories visually. He tells real stories of real people, most frequently for Universities and Corporate clients. Robert applies these same narrative skills to assignments for commercial clients that value the photojournalist’s passion for authenticity. Whoever he may be working for, Floyd manages to tell his stories and communicate the power of real, decisive moments in a way that seems almost effortless. He works hard at it, though, yet, to him, it is merely play.

Floyd has the ability to communicate and fit in and a willingness to go all out for as long as necessary. “It’s about coming back with great images in what are not always the easiest circumstances.” Creating beautiful photographs in a whirlwind of activity under pressure, time after time, on demand is his expertise. It’s the excitement and the anticipation of the unknown that keep Floyd constantly on his toes and aware of his surroundings.

“It’s all part of the adventure… all in the journey…we never really arrive at a destination.” Robert Floyd.

Robert on NEPR

Floyd was honored to be an official NEPR commentator about Muhammad Ali. As the world mourned the death of an athletic hero, Floyd remembers the ways in which Ali inspired his life and his work.

“[Muhammad Ali] taught me that failure is not an option.”  Read or listen to the story.

A Red Sox fan from an early age, Floyd describes meeting the legendary center fielder Jim Piersall as a six year old in this NEPR commentary

Books with Robert's Work

Another Language: Portraits of Assistance Dogs and Their People
by Jeanne Braham, Photogrpahy by Robert Floyd

The profiles in Another Language celebrate the healing bonds between service dogs and their people. Through these oral histories, and backed by the power of photographs, sixteen people who have worked with the NEADS/Dogs For Deaf and Disabled Americans program in north-central Massachusetts tell their own stories in their own words. You’ll meet an Iraq war veteran, people who use wheelchairs or who have balance problems due to debilitating disease, trainers who raise service puppies and others who work with NEADS’ human clients, and more. Writer/interviewer Jeanne Braham, along with photographer Robert Floyd, bring the stories to life in a way that’s respectful, compassionate, and compelling.

"I want to highlight Author Jeanne Braham more than myself. This is her 8th book…and she has become a very dear close friend." -Robert Floyd
