Seeing

The wind blew into our eyes as we watched the setting sun. Peggy’s Cove is my Mecca. Everyone is out capturing images of the sun. Personally I wait until the sun disappears bellow the horizon. Then colors emerge that the human eye cannot see. Long exposures with tripod mounted cameras, film or digital, create more stunning images than hand held short exposures.
It fascinates me watching everyone take their positions seeing something from different angles here. We all believe we have the best seat in the house. Lighthouse, setting sun, waves crashing on rocks, reflections in pools, visitors, all make for a busy scene.
What did I see? Way too much. I drew in my seeing to Kiefer sitting by my side. He rarely has been to the ocean. He was enjoying it all. His seeing was unique to him and it was beyond simply looking. He was at peace seeing what pleased him being in the moment, true Zen. The wind did not distract me. More wind. Suddenly my desire was to capture his intensity. I stretched my arms, sitting still, turning my camera at an uncomfortable angle yet focusing on his eye. Click. We stayed for another hour enjoying our seeing.
