The wind was fierce that day…

:Connection with far away events.

Framed art makes our houses feel like our homes and has a strong impact on setting the tone  for our room design. Yes, furniture, wall coverings, and our accessories play an important role in establishing the character of our spaces. However, the art in our rooms makes a clear statement. Whatever the style of a Gallery Visitor's home, completing the look and feel with the right image can turn any design into one that will be memorable and will provide the right touch to our home or office environment.

Images communicate ideas and events. The above image is only one in a series of perhaps 300 captured that early summer evening. It demonstrates the power of the elements, the enormous size of the horse and the fisherman's calmness and trust that all is OK.

The wind was fierce that day...(remember, George, Kramer's golf ball and the whale?) The stronger than usual winds and heavy wave action prevent the fishermen from taking their boats out from safe harbor to harvest Irish Moss, a small attractive commercial sea weed whose chief ingredient is used as an emulsifier for tooth paste, beer and ice cream. Instead, the resourceful fishermen, all five of them that day, use the proven early 20th century method of harvesting Irish Moss. Belgian draft horses, ridden or guided, patrol the shoreline dragging iron mesh scoops. They scoop up the Moss as they scraped the rocky bottom.

The blond maned, butterscotch skinned horse drags the heavily laden scoop up on the beach. The men strain to open the Irish Moss filled scoop. dump out the Moss, and a rider jumps back on the horse and away they go into the surf. The dumped Moss is forked into a dump truck where it in turn is dumped on nearby fishermen's lawns of thyme and red clay driveways. Moss dries, gets cleaned and baled, then shipped off to a processing plant. We eat the ice cream, drink the beer and then eventually brush our teeth with the ingredient.
