"African-American Women Photographers"
A digital slide show with narration. Pat will highlight the works and their speaking in the video of Jeanne Moutouuamy-Ashe and Carrie Mae Weems.
Jeanne Moutouuamy-Ashe, widow of Arthur Ashe, is a widely recognized photographer whose work has supported efforts to educate people about AIDS. Her books and exhibits include “Faces, Places and Spaces,” “Arthur Ashe, Out of the Shadow,” and “Trees and Nature.”
Carrie Mae Weems, a 2013 recipient of a MacArthur’s Genius Grant, is considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists. Throughout her career as a visual artist, she has investigated family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, class, political systems, and the consequences of power. Her work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum, among others.
