presents our Sixth“Nature in the Pioneer Valley” Photo Contest

Complete Contest Guidelines: Prints only, no matted artwork, no framed artwork please. B&W or Color.

The competition is open to both novice and advanced photographers alike. It is a celebration of photography.  The contest goals are: 

•    To encourage and recognize your outstanding work that reflects personal vision as well as technical excellence.

•    To increase our awareness of nature in the Pioneer Valley.

•    To educate and inspire all.

1 Birds in Flight

2 Landscapes...as my friend and hero, Robert Glenn Ketchum told me at Woodstock, NY in the '90s, "Robert, they're all Landscapes."

so...a landscape is an image of natural scenery...pond, hills, meadows, wildflowers, and even a patch of weeds et al. Landscapes may include "the hand of man." There you have it! Yes, the "hand of man" is allowed for your landscapes now. Why not?

3 Abstracts in Nature

Novice Division_prints need to have an approximate (no smaller) 8" X 10" ink space:

1 Critters...are to be wildlife, not dependent on being fed by humans.

3 Plant Life...not domestic plants.

• This will be a unmatted, unframed print entry competition.
• Those selected will then be invited in March to submit framed artwork for exhibit and final judging in April, 2018.
• The contest is open to photographers living anywhere.
• Subjects must exist in the Pioneer Valley...Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire Counties including Granby, CT and Athol, MA.
• Hundreds of dollars in cash awards plus merchandise prizes will be presented in each of the three categories. 
• Prints must be original, created by the photographer who enters that work.
• Entries previously submitted in a previous “Nature in the Pioneer Valley” Photo Contest are not eligible. 

• A “nature” image is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict observations from all branches of natural history.

• Any form of manipulation of the image that alters the truth of the photographic statement (what was seen by your human eye at the time of image capture) is not allowed. 

• No techniques that add to, replace or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted.  All adjustments MUST appear natural. .

• Photos submitted for the “Nature in the Pioneer Valley” Photo Contest must be a truthful representation of whatever happened in front of the camera during exposure.

• We may post-process the images electronically in accordance with good practice. That is cropping, burning, dodging, converting to black and white as well as normal exposure and color correction, which preserves the image's original expression (no “cloning” or changing the color of subjects). The Judges reserve the right to see the original raw image files, negatives and/or slides. In cases of doubt, the photographer’s print can be pulled out of competition."

Entries are only $15 each, only $47 for four entries. Photographers may submit up to 4 prints in each of their categories, Advanced or Novice.

Checks made out to Robert Floyd Photography. PayPal and Square are options.
