Call to Artists : “Social Justice: Revitalizing Environmentalism” photo contest/exhibit

Monson Arts Council in their Monson House of Art, Monson, MA, SEP 27 - OCT 6, 2019.
The Floyd Gallery proudly invites all photographers, 18 years and older, to participate in our 4th Annual Juried Monson exhibit.
Please submit your digital images right now for consideration. You may enter up to four images per category for only $30 each category. Thank you!
There are 3 categories:
(1) WILD BIRDS AROUND TOWN
- Birds must be in a New England urban, suburban, or rural environment.
- No domestic birds or pets.
- Images must include the ‘hand of man’ as in something man built, e.g structures, roads, orchards, etc.
(2) WILD CRITTERS IN OUR BACKYARDS
- Critters must be in a New England urban, suburban, or rural environment.
- No domestic critters or pets.
- Images must include the ‘hand of man’ as in something man built, e.g structures, roads, orchards, etc.
(3) RENEWING OUR ENVIRONMENT
- Images are to be of the process of construction or completition of planned culture into a New England urban, suburban, or rural environment, e.g. sculpture installations (orchard), neighborhood or community revitalization (Springfield), entertainment (Providence Waterfire), etc.
- Images must include the color, form, excitement, enjoyment, beauty, and/or meaning of the scene(s) of your choice.
IMPORTANT DATES:
- NEW_Deadline to upload digital files: Saturday, September 14, 2019 by 9:00 am (EST)
- Notification of Results: Saturday, September 14, 2019 (via email)
- Once images are selected and jurired, our curator Patricia Crutchfield will invite photographers to convert their digital images into framed artwork in time for the September 27 exhibit.
- Exhibited images may be sold. Accepted artwork due at Monson House of Art or The Floyd Gallery: Thursday, SEP 26, 2019.
- 20% of all artwork sales will go to both the Monson Arts Council and The Floyd Gallery. Artwork for sale must be 11" X 14" print size or larger.
_Opening Reception: Saturday, SEP 27, 2019 1:00 - 5:00pm
_Winning Framed Artwork will be exhibited: September 27 - October 6, 2019
_All submitted digital images will be shown as a slideshow on large monitor.

OUR JURORS ARE:
WILD BIRDS AROUND TOWN: GREG SAULMON
- Greg, a Holyoke based journalist, is an established photographer and musician.
- An avid birder, he also created “The Birds Downtown,” a blog about urban birding.
- His Birds in Holyoke was a most successful slide-show presentation at The Gallery.
- His artwork have been displayed at the Hosmer Gallery, Wistariahurst Museum, Vermont Center for Photography in Brattleboro, and MASS MoCA .
WILD CRITTERS IN OUR BACKYARDS: ANNE E. ELY
- Anne, an Amherst based photographer, has exhibited widely and won several awards.
- She frequently photographs critters at the Amherst Bike Trail and Quabbin Reservoir.
- Her contributions to The Daily Hampshire Gazette’s Vallery Views have well exceeded over 100 weekly publications.
- She is a steady member of our Advancealots Seminar.
RENEWING OUR ENVIRONMENT: CAROL WASSERLOOS AND ROSEMARY POLLETTA
- Carol, a Hatfield based photographer, is participant in our Advanced DSLR Seminar for over 10 years.
- Her artwork has been accepted in multiple exhibits and local calendar.
- An avid birder and master gardener, she has been a participant as well in our Rhode Island, Cape Cod, and Cape May photo workshops.
- Carol captures a strong sense of place consistently.
- Rosemary, a Springfield based photographer, has been a participant in our Rhode Island, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia photo workshops.
- Her artwork has won numerous awards in various contests and exhibits.
- She is a steady member of our Advancealots Seminar.
- Her Newfoundland and Nova Scotia slide-show presentation at The Gallery were most successful.
OUR SOCIAL JUSTICE EXHIBIT CURATOR: PATRICIA CRUTCHFIELD
- Pat, a Southwick based photographer, has successfully curated our last year’s Social Justice exhibit at Monson House of Art
- The heavily visited exhibit included 114 artwork of which 56 were from Julius Lester’ Black South collection.
- Pat is a solid participant in our Advanced DSLR Seminar.
- She has been the preferred photographer for Snow Farm, Community Music School of Springfield, and other prominent community venues.

- 1st Place per category - $200
- 2nd Place per category - One-On-One photo consultation with Gallery Creative Director Robert Floyd ($175 value)
- 3rd Place per category - Invitation to a three person group exhibit. ($75 in presentations fee waived.)
