The Midnight Guidelines for The Gallery's Fifth "Nature in the Pioneer Valley" Photo Contest
Listen my photographers and you shall attest to
The midnight guidelines of The Gallery's Fifth "Nature in the Pioneer Valley" Photo Contest,
On the nineteenth of April, in ten;
Hardly a one is now awake in their den
Who remembers that famous day and year.
He said to his friend, "If the "So You Want to Exhibit Workshop"
Participants photo exhibit is extended to-night,
Turn on the porch light and the neon open sign that rests
By the Gallery Window as a signal light,
One if by a day, and two if by a week;
And I on the opposite side of the street will seek,
Ready to email and spread the alarm
Through every Pioneer Valley village and tree,
For the photographers to be up and to drink coffee."
Meanwhile, impatient to buckle and ride,
Socked and sandled, with a swift stride
On the opposite side of the road strode Robert.
Now he patted his mini van's side,
Now he gazed at the landscape with great comfort,
Then, impetuous, stamped the ground,
And turned and listened to any sound;
But mostly he watched with eager search
The neon open sign by The Gallery porch,
As it rose above the stalks of the dill,
Lonely and spectral and sombre and still.
And lo! as he looks, on the Gallery window's height
A glimmer, and then a gleam of light!
He springs to the bucket seat, the steering wheel he turns,
But lingers and gazes, till full on his sight
The porch light and the open sign in the The Gallery window both burn.
It was twelve by the village clock,
When he came to the bridge in Southampton town.
He heard the bleating of the flock,
And the twitter of birds among the trees,
And felt the breath of the morning breeze
(eeekk...wrong guy!)
Blowing over the meadow brown.
You know the rest. In the articles you have read
How the Novice and Advanced entered and fled.
And so through the night went the cry of enter
To every Pioneer Valley village and renter,
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a "you have mail",
words that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all The Gallery's history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness for him and her,
The photographers will waken and read to attest
The hurrying mouse-clicks of their computer,
And the midnight message for The Gallery's “Fifth Nature in the Pioneer Valley” Photo Contest.
The Contest deadline for students 18 and under, NOVICE, and ADVANCED photographers
is Sunday, May 23, 6pm.
Attached is your advanced copy! Please pass this on to a friend and/ or associate...even a neighbor!
Final copy (only tweaked) will arrive this weekend.
Cheers and good night, Robert
P.S. Any similarity to the famous poem written exactly 150 years ago to the day is "a shape in the moonlight."
