Short Biography of Donald J. David
Donald J. David retired from Monsanto in 1993 as a Senior Science Fellow and Manager of Exploratory Science, Saflex Technology, Chemical Group of Monsanto. He has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from St. Mary’s University San Antonio, Texas (4 year honor scholarship), an M.S. in Management Science, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton. He has 23 patents and authored/co-authored over 75 publications, including three monographs and has received a number of awards. Dr. David was on the graduate faculty as an Adjunct Professor in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota, had an appointment as CUMIRP* Research Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in Polymer Science and Engineering. He was a Senior Associate at Specialized Technology Resources (STR) of Enfield, Connecticut and was engaged in technical literature searching, technical abstracting, writing, and consulting for STR.
In my career as a Polymer Scientist/Engineer I continued my interest in photography as an avocation. Since I have had the opportunity to travel widely, I have done substantial travel and landscape photography but presently, my main interest is nature and wildlife photography.
Whether my subjects are nature, landscape, or wildlife, I attempt to portray them as faithfully as I see the original image, with only the necessary modifications to bring out the natural beauty of the image. All wildlife is photographed in its natural habitat with no artificial setups or lighting. I attempt to present images that may not ordinarily be observed so that the viewer can discover something new for himself/herself and thus appreciate a unique moment of the beauty in the world around us. My photographs have been recognized with a number of awards.
