One last time, The Black South exhibit returns to The Floyd Gallery for exhibit
We are thrilled to share this historic exhibit with you now.
The Robert Floyd Gallery and Learning Center is pleased to present “Photographs of the Black South (1966-1969)", an exhibition of powerful photographs created by Julius Lester. SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) sent Julius down to Mississippi in 1966 to capture the essence of the Black South. The exhibition runs from December 10 through December 22, 2023.
This exhibit has traveled to Princeton University, E-Media, and Monson House of Art. The Julius Lester family has released this artwork for sale in 2023.
"Despite what a photograph may purport to be about, I think photographs are autobiographies. When we take pictures that are not for the sake of memory (family and the like), we are seeing something of ourselves, and are seeking to make visible something that is alive but unconscious within us.”
_Julius Lester
Each artwork is now available for sale. It is what Julius Lester wanted, his artwork to be collected and cherished by you.
This exhibit celebrates our going forward into our 23rd year and honoring Julius Lester during the Hanukkah 2023 season.
