My favorite workshop, tested thru the many years. Proven to take you to your next level. You will complete a long-term personal project with challenge, guidance, and support. Priceless!

It’s that time of year again. Ambitions. Plans. Re-birth.

"Explore Your Personal Long-Term Photo Project” Workshop:

  • Nothing satisfies more than the successful completion of this creative endeavor.
  • The rewards are many: a gallery exhibit, a magazine artice, a photo book, or a collection of final prints in a portfolio.
  • Our ability to conceive, develop, and complete a long-term personal photo project is the mark of an advanced photographer.

I participated in a class with a fantastic teacher at Manhattan's New School who taught us to work in bodies of work instead of individual photographs, to go into a subject and explore it. I captured in 35mm B&W film. One of my images made it into MOMA. This gave me confidence. Before long, I received assignments which led to more confidence, success, and a lifetime adventure in photography. Thank you George Alpert!

  • This workshop is designed for the needs of the intermediate or advanced serious photographer who requires broader areas for personal growth in photography now.
  • In order to create a body of work of personal significance, as opposed to a collection of random photographs, a long-term project is worked out with each participant.
  • The result of the photographer's particular project may then take the form of a photo essay or photo exhibition...or both...or when fully extended, a photo book.
  • The workshop will focus on sources of subject matter and the selection and development of same.
  • It will reach deeply into the detailing of working methods that incorporate the photographer's life experience, imagination, and craft.
  • The ultimate objective is to simultaneously generate purpose and point of view in making a group of inter-related photographs.
  • It takes into careful consideration the specific needs of the individual workshop participant in furthering a personal photographic creativity.

Often the most difficult stage in any photographic project is completing it.

  • The goal of this tried and true workshop is to guide each photographer toward culmination of their chosen project, a portfolio, an exhibit, a book, a fund raising calendar or other creative outlet.
  • Floyd will work individually and collectively with participants to conceptualize, enhance, and fine-tune their work.
  • Group discussions will include: technical and craft issues, editing and sequencing, outlets for publication, funding, ethical concerns, and most importantly, constructive criticism.
  • The workshop will be a collaborative effort to answer questions, raise possibilities, produce new work, network ideas, and support each participant's goals.
  • Photograph with purpose.

P.S. Don’t be afraid to take on a project that goes a little bit above and beyond what’s required,” a former graduate says. “We could have done a project that was a lot simpler and easier, but instead we decided to do something that was quite challenging for us. We learned a lot in the process. We put in a lot more time than we expected, and it ended up paying off in the long run.”

The details...

  • You will learn to create a deep connection to a body of work over time.
  • We will focus on a personal project of yours to give you the skill set needed to create images unified with style and a theme.

  • We continue to offer something special to facilitate and support your ideas.

Testimonials from Long Term Photo Project Workshop participants:

"My experience during the six month Photo Project was well worth my investment. Feedback from Robert and the group helped me clarify the goals for my project, and having a finite time frame kept me moving toward that goal. Robert's ongoing, one-on-one support throughout the six months was priceless. This is a workshop I would repeat.” __Pat Crutchfield, Southwick

"Robert's teaching ability is easy to understand.  The one on one instruction I received on settings and composition gave me more confidence to continue on. I had a big smile on my face when the project was done. It was a challenge." __Madeline Catania, Agawam

"The Robert Floyd Gallery and Learning Center provides a unique learning experience through the Photo Project Workshops by providing helpful hints and constructive direction for shooting better photos. Being able to use Robert as a sounding board has helped to keep me focused to move forward with my selected workshop theme.  These workshops are filled with other photographers who also want to improve their skills; thus we are all learning from each other."

"Robert is always available by email or phone to help with project ideas or challenges.  Not only are the workshops fun and motivating, but  you meet  new people and make new friends.   All in all a truly great experience.” __Jack Grimaldi, Ludlow
